PARK AND RECREATIONAL OPEN SPACL: GOALS To provide adequate park and recreation open space and facilites to provide for the needs of the estimated saturation population ~. projected for the City.. More Specifically; 1. Provide a park and recreation system of sufficient size to meet the national standrd of 1 to l~ acres of recreation open space per 100 population. 2. Provide a recreat~.on open space within walking access o~ every resident. 3. Develop. park facilities to meet the needs of various user groups. 4. Preserve and enhance the aesthetic qualities of parks and open space. 5. Promote and encourage cooperative development of park and recreation activities and facilities between the City and other governmental units. EXISTING CONDITIONS ANA NEEDS Presently, the City has a potential of some 523 acres of recreation land including useable school property, the proposed Ramsey County park along Rice Creek and north and east of Long Lake, City parks and the City golf course. Most City parks are equipped with permanent park shelters, skating rinks, ball diamonds and play equipment. This reflects 'the City philosophy that these active recreation facilities should be easily accessible to all City residents rather than centralized on one large park. In addition, some facilities primarily oriented toward school age children, are provided on the elementary school grounds. The junior and senior high schools also have tennis courts and pool facilities which are available for public use on a limited schedule. Municipal Park Land In Use: 1. Sunny Square 7 ac. 2.
