.The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department strives to pro- <br />vide a comprehensive, safe, and stimulating program of leisure-time <br />activities for residents of-New Brighton in as economic a manner <br />possible, These programs include activities for all ages with a <br />majority operating on a self-supporting basis. Certain programs <br />such as summer playgrounds are subsidized by taxes.. <br />.The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department has also facili- <br />tated various athletic associations and organizations which serve the <br />residents. The Department's function has primarily been in providing <br />facilities and publicizing their programs. These organizations are; <br />Irondale Basketball Association(IBA); Lake Region Hockey Association(LR~1 <br />Mounds View Athletic Association(MVAA-Baseball); Mounds View Swim Club; <br />New Brighton Junior Bowling; and North Suburban Junior Wrestling. <br />Residents of New Brighton can actively participate in a wide range <br />of activities from athletic to cultural in nature. Programs are <br />offered through the New Brighton Park and Recreation Department, <br />Athletic Associations, Independent School District 621 Community. Edu- <br />cation Department, and-.Independent School District 282 Community <br />Services Department. <br />Recreation program offerings of the New Brighton Park and Recrea - <br />tion Department are listed in the chart on the following page. The <br />Department provides interested residents with available facilities <br />for their use; i.e. pool rentals, open gyms, gym reservations, field <br />reservations. <br />The New Brighton Park and Recreation Department works cooperatively <br />with both the Independent School District 621 Community Education De- <br />partment and the Independent School District 282 Community Services <br />Department in several areas of programming. These areas include a <br />Winter Fair/Equipment Exchange Evening; adult trips, development of <br />youth after school grograms; planning programs to serve special popu- <br />lotions; a cross country ski program; and joint Senior activities. <br /> <br />
