NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />OCTOBER 7, 1981 <br />I. Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Gunderman at 7:30 p.m. <br />II. Members present: Carlson,. Dahl, Grimshaw, Gunderman, Johnson, <br />Olson, Solberg, Van Hatten, Council Rep. Schmidt. <br />- Hogan arrived at 8:10 <br />III. Minutes of September 2,.1981 meeting were approved as written. <br />IV. Correspondence <br />A. Council Report <br />Schmidt said funds were appropriated for Hansen Park parking lot <br />and for paths. Walburn may move across the street. Park Place <br />wanted final approval but plan was not in .order. Council dis- <br />cussed restricting display of some periodicals but no action taken. <br />Planning Commission appointed seven more persons. Now the Planning <br />Commission and Board of Review are combined. .Palmer Drive lounge <br />was approved and bids in - have started construction. Planned to <br />open-December 7th. Sunny Square park shelter was discussed. <br />Should it be wood or metal. Council preferred wood, Eliot Funk <br />land swap approved. Reviewed .proposed. plan for Hansen. Authorized <br />to start bidding for walk way. Had a petition for off sale liquor <br />at Rice Creek Shopping Center. <br />Anderson said he wanted to make some additional remarks. Staff <br />recommended to-the Council a metal. shelter building, rather than <br />a wood structure, because of the cost. Council strongly-favored <br />the wood structure. The Jaycees have .been contacted and have <br />tentatively agreed to build five shelters over the next five years. <br />Once there is a definite commitment for this project designs will <br />be looked at and they will come to the Park Board for preference <br />and then on to the Council. <br />Anderson stated the Hansen Park bids came in and we had budgeted <br />$108,000 but bids came in about $82,000. Contractors apparently <br />are hungry. <br />Schmidt stated the day care program came-before the Council. They: <br />were not aware of the .program-until the September 22nd meeting. <br />The Council wanted it referred to the Park Board. Should the City <br />be involved in any day care services. Is it the school districts <br />area or non-profit organization area. Council was concerned why <br />the City should sponsorjt. On the other hand the League of Women <br />Voters. representative expressed the need and interest in seeing <br />how the city, parents and school district can work together in this <br />program. <br />
