June 3, 1981 Park. Board Minutes. Page 4 '
Carlson said the League of .Women Voters could work hand-in-ha~
with the Historical Society.
Hogan said he goes along with what has been said but. he said
this attraction will pull people from all over the Metro area.
There will be alot of people from outside of New Brighton.
Johnson said it sounds like a real positive idea.
Gunderman felt it might be appropriate to encourage balloonists
to take off from the park site. He also suggested having a
.hand-out to give people relating to donations. for our Park
Foundation.
Johnson feels the publicity is very important.
Schmidt said the Minnesota Railroad Transportation has been
set up to handle the publicity.
Anderson said it is important that we key in on our objective.
We have to identify what we want to do. Likes the idea of a
walking tour. Not sure we have .time to find horses etc. for
a hayride or similar type activity. We could rent a wagon
and pull it with a i:ractor, with someone extremely knowledgable
:leading the tour. Maybe have two tours a day. People can
schedule the train ride around the tour. Anderson said he wo~i
be willing to give the tour on one day. It will take an hour
and a half to do the tour.
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Van Hatten, to have a walking tour
for the 4th and 5th of July and contact the Historical Society
to work in conjunction. Motion passed.
Gunderman asked what the intention of the motion was.
Dahl said to get people familiar with the park.
Carlson asked Dahl if she was against having a motorized tour.
Dahl said it would be ok for those that could not walk.
Olson said she would like to help but doesn't feel qualified
to give the tour.
Anderson said it will be hard to have anything prepared because
things are so fluid right now. He would worry about putting
things in writing at this time:. Mags and descriptive things
would be good.
Van Hatten made it known that the motion stated walking tour
but not guided.
Carlson suggested putting stakes in the ground with a description
of the site.
