May 6, 1981 Park Board Minutes
Page 2
Anderson said to improve the pond or lagoon area.. It was funded
several years ago with the majority of the money being from the
federal government.
Gunderman asked what.-will cause. it not to happen again.
Anderson said they have removed erosion problems upstream and
think that will help. They also have a settling. pond which they
hope will help the problem. There are plans to straighten the
channel. The plan will go to the EQC and then to the Council.
Work will begin late this summer.
Van Hatten asked how deep the material will be.
Anderson said 15-20 feet.
Carlson asked if there was anything the Park Board could. do to
encourage the dredging of the channel or at least up to-it.
The channel is shallow. If the posts are removed., that takes
away the visual awareness to slow down. It could be dangerous
for those that do not .know the lake.
Anderson suggested that this be included in the motion.
Van Hatten asked how they will get the sludge to the top of the
hi 1.
Anderson said they will pipe it there.
Gunderman asked if any of the material removed from the lake could
be used for the road.
Anderson said it's not good material for that purpose and can be
better utilized in other areas of the park.
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Van Hatten, to approve the dredging
disposal .sites at Long Lake Park.. Motion passed.
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Johnson, to add to the motion
that the channel be deepened. Motion passed..
B. Ice Surface Debris
Anderson said-the debris is the worst he has ever seen on the lake.
The DNR also received alot of complaints and have hauled clot of
debris off the akes. Our Maintenance crew and volunteers also
hauled off much of the debris. Bensing, in his letter, is asking
if there is anything that can be Gone in the future to avoid-this
problem. The DNR was no help. The City could have an ordinance
but it has to be enforced. It is very hard to enforce because you
have o actually see someone violating the ordinance. The law
is strict but hard to enforce. The only suggestion he has is to
clean up-every year as we have been.
