The things <br />that are now present. at Veterans should remain. For instance, we <br />should always have a ball diamond, play area,~etc.~ The configur-- <br />ation may change .but we should keep the above items. <br />Anderson: has discussed with Councilmen Blomquist the possibility of <br />vacating 3rd Ave. Negotiate with the ahurch••and acquire a portion <br />of their parking lot and give them a~n access trail ,and the rights <br />to park on this lot and fit in with business use. The kids will, not <br />have~to cross the street. Retain half~of their pax'king area and <br />half of 'the people will have to welk about a block. We would lose <br />about an acre of land but will be compensated by what was picked <br />up on 10th Street. <br />Dahl .said the traffic is heavy.. What will happen to it. <br />.Anderson°saidit could become a loop, technically it is possible. <br />Anderson said it appears to be a fairly good possibility. Another <br />advantage to the church would be they would not have to plow and <br />maintain the lot. <br />• Ol-son asked if he City would plow the°lot on a Sunday. <br />Anderson said he assumed so .~ • <br />.Van flatten said them is not` sufficient access on -the south end. <br />Anderson the new lot would be put in .., <br />' 4 <br />Hogan said 3rd Ave, s~the only ,one that goes through. Alot of <br />..traffic goes through there.. He•thought perhaps 3rd could~be <br />closed. and.4th'opened. ' <br />Anderson said; be is not going to request it; <br />Van Hatten said if you block the treet off,, there will be opposition. <br />Anderson stated that when wet get to the plan we will definitely <br />call a meeting with residents. ~~ ; <br />Van H~atten said he is~on the Church Board.. ~, <br />Anderson said we will go to the ;church when we have a proposal. <br />,Schmidt said the planning staf f wll,work with'the park staff to <br />service that area. <br />• Ander'son`said given t`he economics of the situation, we don't-have,. <br />much choice .but to give up some parkland. ' <br />Van Hatten commented he thought 'the City was talking about ex- <br />p~nding City Hall. <br />
