Andersor 1,41,xector Park and Recreation
Re: Long Lake Park, Development, Operation and Maintenance
The City of New Brighton currently has all its options for
Long Lake Park still open. Those options include: compleLo
development and operation by an outside agency, Ramsey County,
DNR, Metro Park system, etc.; complete development and opera-
tion by tho City or some combination of the two options.
The- Council has requested a study on the feasibility of total
• City development and operation of the facility. Another simi-
lar option that should be uxplored is that of metro fundua de-
velopment and city operation. Although the Metro Council leas
taken a position in opposition to smaller municipalities acting
as implementing agencies for regional parka thure still exists
a possibility of New Brighton being so desiynatud.
The Ramsey County Board has not taken an official position on
regional marks except to request operation and maintenance
funds from outside sources. The implication of their actions
to date are that the county will not become- activt:ly involvud
in regional park. activities for some time to come. The resolu-
tion recently adopted by the City Council and sent to the
County should provide us with some additional direction as to
the county's future: plans specifically for the Long Lake/Rush
Lake property.
1111Ic: cost projections used in this report are derived from
Motro Council's development estimates and Ramsey and Ilennepin
County operation and maintenance estimates. `1'he: estimates
ar4 only estimates and are using 1979-80 dollars not adjusted
for inflation.
•
