Paul, MN 55113
Telephone 636-3650
COMMUNITY EDUCATION..
April 10, 1980
T0: Dennis zylla,-t~aurie Anderson.
FROM: Dr. George Christenson, John Qstlund
RE: Nighv7ew raintenance Standards
This memo is in response to the concerns raised at our meeting on
Wednesday, April 2nd. The question was asked, "'What would be the level of
maintenance standards at Highview Middle School should New Brighton not
participate in cooperative efforts of maintenance?". The attached chart
shows the estimated modified level of maintenance without joint support of
community and schools.-
. The purpose of this question, as we understand it, was to enable the
City to decide if their services were needed. The effects of this modified
maintenance would require less usage of the site to assure satisfactory
playing conditions under the modified maintenance program.
It should also be mentioned that the concept of a multi-usage site
was developed jointly between the School District and municipal input. This
site would not have had as many detailed components if it had not been
planned for intense school/community usage. For example:
1.) the irrigation system would have covered half of the
surface of the current plan;
2.) a smaller baseball backstop would have been sufficient
for two month usage verses a spring/summer usage;
3.) the football/soccer fields would not have been crowned
for Middle School usage alone, and would not require as
complete an underground drainage system.
We look forward to our continued meetings to further discuss the
possibilities of cooperative efforts to assure school and community usage
of the Highview Middle School site.
•
GAC/JO:bk
