NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />DECEMBER ~, 1980 <br />I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by Chairperson Gunderman. <br />II. Members present: Dahl, Grimshaw, Gunderman, Johnson., Olson, <br />Van Hatten, Council Rep. Benke <br />Members absent: Carlson, Hogan, Solberg <br />III. The minutes of the November 12, 1980 meeting were approved as sub- <br />mitted. <br />IV. Correspondence <br />A. Counc-il Report <br />Councilman Benke reported that decisions on 1981-86 Capital Im- <br />provementsare still pending and that the Board should plan on <br />being involved in downtown. planning as it affects Veterans Park. <br />Van Hatten asked if the Board should be reacting to plans now. <br />being considered. <br />Benke responded that Board input was welcome at any stage of ..the <br />process. <br />Van Hatten also expressed concern on behalf of the St. John`s <br />Church Council that they be kept informed of potential changes <br />in Veterans Park. <br />V. New Business <br />A. 1980 MRPA Conference Report <br />Grimshaw reported that he felt his attendance at the MRPA.Con- <br />ference was beneficial and he expressed appreciation to the City <br />for giving him an opportunity to attend. <br />VI. Old Business <br />A. Long Lake - Ramsey County Proposal Update <br />Staff reported that-the County Board had sent the City's request. <br />for a statement of the Board's intentions regarding Long Lake <br />Park back to committee for further study. It was also reported <br />that., the Board may again consider the issue in January or per- <br />haps delay until the end of the upcoming legislative session. <br />The County Board has indicated a reluctance to decide on the <br />issue until the matter of funding for operations and maintenance. <br />has been resolved by the legislature. - <br />Gunderman stated that he feels the. City should. be actively con- <br />sidering all of its options for development of the site. Access <br />to the park site was discussed with concern expressed over the <br />County access being denied if the site is developed as a City <br />park. <br />
