NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES DECEMBER ~, 1980 I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by Chairperson Gunderman. II. Members present: Dahl, Grimshaw, Gunderman, Johnson., Olson, Van Hatten, Council Rep. Benke Members absent: Carlson, Hogan, Solberg III. The minutes of the November 12, 1980 meeting were approved as sub- mitted. IV. Correspondence A. Counc-il Report Councilman Benke reported that decisions on 1981-86 Capital Im- provementsare still pending and that the Board should plan on being involved in downtown. planning as it affects Veterans Park. Van Hatten asked if the Board should be reacting to plans now. being considered. Benke responded that Board input was welcome at any stage of ..the process. Van Hatten also expressed concern on behalf of the St. John`s Church Council that they be kept informed of potential changes in Veterans Park. V. New Business A. 1980 MRPA Conference Report Grimshaw reported that he felt his attendance at the MRPA.Con- ference was beneficial and he expressed appreciation to the City for giving him an opportunity to attend. VI. Old Business A. Long Lake - Ramsey County Proposal Update Staff reported that-the County Board had sent the City's request. for a statement of the Board's intentions regarding Long Lake Park back to committee for further study. It was also reported that., the Board may again consider the issue in January or per- haps delay until the end of the upcoming legislative session. The County Board has indicated a reluctance to decide on the issue until the matter of funding for operations and maintenance. has been resolved by the legislature. - Gunderman stated that he feels the. City should. be actively con- sidering all of its options for development of the site. Access to the park site was discussed with concern expressed over the County access being denied if the site is developed as a City park.
