August 13, 1980 Park Board Minutes Pa.ge.4 Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Carlson, to recommend Plan C and and make the .southern lot a complete circle. Van Hatten emended ,.seconded by Dahl, to change the circular lot to a rectangular parking area. Amendment passed. Gunderman and Carlson naye. Anderson commented that both .lots should. be made equal in car spaces. Hogan asked if curbing would be put in. Anderson stated curbing is on-the original plan (down the middle). The trees could be put down the middle of the second lot if rectangular. Carlson stated there is no middle parking on-the circular drawing which is better for safety reasons. Vote on main motion, 5 ayes, Gunderman naye Van Hatten commented that a dual entrance/exit should be reconsidered and that the Mayor is in favor of the dual entrance and feels that's the only way to do it. Van Hatten feels that perhaps it__s.hQUld be reconsidered. Gunderman stated that the residents that live there didn':t want it. Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Johnson, to reconsider dual entrance for purpose of discussion. Van Hatten, Johnson ayes, others abstained. Motion passed. Resident Sylvester stated she didn't feel it could be brought up again.. Van Hatten said the Park Board did favor one entrance but. it~~can be brought up again. Dahl asked if there was any new information regarding the dual en- trance.. Johnson asked if any of the others parks have a dual entrance. Anderson stated Freedom is :the only one but it's very different. Van Hatten stated .that the object of the dual entrance is to slow traffic down before it goes into the lot... Van Hatten suggested and entrance further up the street (south}:and put a few. curves to slow traffic down. Single entrance mid-block, exit where it is. Van Hatten asked what is the objection to mid- block entrance. Sylvester stated 5th Street is not high.. speed street. The main objection is that it is much narrower and while making a left hand turn into the park, cars will be shaving the corner. She feels it is a definite problem.
