om unity
*Area of natural or. ornamental quality for nature oriented outdoor recreation activities such as
picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming and field games. A community park serves 3 to 5
neighborhoods and is usually 25-50 acres in size. ,
The community parks of Aquatorei Oakridge and. Laddie Lake Park offer a broad range of
community recreation opportunities to the residents of Blaine. Aquatore Park, the oldest and most
fully-developed city park, is the site of the annual Blaine Blazing 4th Community Celebration which
-draws thousands of residents for picnics, field-game activities, musical events, and the annual
fireworks display: Laddie Lake. Park; a water based recreation area, has been a major focus of land
acquisition during 1976-1977 in conjunction with the Federal Lawcon Grant Program.
Further development of these parks and the acquisition of another community park is necessary to
better accommodate city growth and increasing recreational needs. Because residents in Central
Blaine are not easily accommodated by a community park, the city is seeking acquisition of an
additional community, park facility.-
Aquatore'Park is located adjacent to the Blaine City Hall at 91 st Avenue North and Highway 65. The
site contains several large trees, a wide grassy area and many natural features that provide a variety
of visual interest. The park functions well for both passive and active recreation. Active field-game
facilities and the. picnic area of the park are separated and well buffered by woodlands. As this park
is the most used and currently the most centralized park in the city, it is essential that the city
maintain a quality program of maintenance and development.
r- P"POM
' r
N
S

aArouno
ILMMT[C?
W"S
L _OIAVDUNO
t2 k,

roorsAU DIAMOUND
L
BASEBAL
\. Aquatore Park was
acquired in 1963 through a city purchase from the C.A. Nelson Farms Inc. In 1967 another 10 acres
was purchased which increased the size of the park to 23 acres.
34
•
Aquatore Park
Existing Facilities
Open Shelter
Picnic area with tables and grills
Playground apparatus
Park building with restrooms and
concession stand
3 Ballfields (2 are lighted)
1 Horseshoe courts
I Proposed 5 Year Plans
I Lighting - 3rd ballfield 1979
Trait Development 1979
upgrade Parking 1980
Landscape Improvements 1979,1980
Playground Equipment 1980,1981
Acquisition
B

i1i
ha
