..

February 6, 1980 Park Board Minutes. Page 2
•
Bill Sherman stated he had three boys who did not want a
baseball diamond but would-like a backstop. The park
would need play equipment but not a warming house. He also
liked the idea of a jogging trail and bike trail..
Gunderman informed the residents that the plan.. some of them
had seen with a jogging trail was a plan from the developer.
The plan did-not come from the Park Board.
Dick Ernst, developer, said that trails into the -park through
private easements are part of his- plan and .may be used by the
public.
Susan Fitzpatrick stated she would like play equipment that
would be creative for small children . Would like a ball
field but with no organized leagues scheduled there. Would
like a big swingset. Feels the park .should have trees for
shade. -
Judy Lindsay would like a grassy field for young children
to play soccer, perhaps a blacktop .area .for 4-square,: hop-
scotch, etc. Maybe an exercise area for adults.
Stan Keller stated there should Slot be a hockey. rink if •
the Park Board is looking for an economic use for the park.
Don .Cable stated the majority of the children are under
l0 .years old. Emphasis whould be put on that ale. Picnic
tables would be nice.
Larry Baker said a ball diamond is needed. No ,jogging trails
because of the number of bikes in the area..
'In answer to a question regarding the cost of tennis courts,
the response was approximately $30,000 for 2 courts.
A resident stated tennis courts would be nice if it would
not exclude other play for the children. There are lots
of tennis courts in the area. If the tennis courts would
be at the expense of a ballfield then she would prefer not
to have the .tennis courts.
Anderson stated that what the people want is very similar
to what the Park Board was already considering.. The park
is Small and-not alot of room to work with. There is room
for a ball diamond but he agrees there should-not be adult
leagues but perhaps T-Ball and younger baseball teams could
play .there. A free skating rink could be put in on the
edge of the baseball diamond or on.the infield of the ball •
diamond. There could be an area for play equipment which
would likely be wood structures9 picnic shelter with open
sides, grills and walk paths. Trees would have to be planted.
No matter what is done on the park, all the trees will be
removed because of possible disease. The city has a tree
spsde and is .able to plan's some fairly large trees,
