Anderson, Director Park and Recreation
.-: -;~~~
Re: Purchase and Installation of Playground Equipment
The Council has authorized the purchase of approximately`
x$27,000.00 worth of playground equipment for city parks,
~of this $22,000.00 was designated playground equipment and
$5,000.00 was included in the development of Driftwood Park.
~To date equipment installed includes: swing set, bounce
pads, spring animals-Freedom; wood climbing structure,`
spring animals-Totem Pole; wood climbing structure, spring
animals, slide-Driftwood.
Equipment on hand but not installed include a swing set and
10 spring. animals. Additionally, a wood structure scheduled
for installation at Vermont Park is awaiting purchase of the
Perron property.
Approximately $3,000.00 is scheduled for Sunny Square how-
ever, there has been some discussion by the Park Board rela-
tive to upgrading the playground area at Sunnyside School
instead of the area at Sunny Square Park. I am opposed to
getting involved at another school if it can be avoided.
I will press the Park Board for its recommendation. Another
$3,000.00 is scheduled for Hansen Park however, we also have
unanswered questions about the location of facilities at
Hansen.
It would be unwise to purchase this equipment until locations
are established because we are short of storage space and more
importantly, placement of the equipment determines type to be
purchased. '
I am recommending that the $6,000.00 scheduled for purchase
of playground equipment at Sunny Square and Hansen Park not
be spent until these issues are resolved.
