Council. is responsible, in .law, for preparing a ..regional Recreation Open Space Policy Plan and for revising it periodically.. The current plan was adopted in December 1974. The Council, with the help of the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission, is beginning work on a new plan. Enclosed is a staff report prepared for the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Corunission. The paper summarizes some of the most significant issues that need to be discussed as part of the revision. process. ode are also very interested in other perspectives. We are planing a public participation process to encourage other views .and provide a foram for discussion of issues related to the regional park plan. As a first step, w2 invite you to attend a bri_efin~; of_ gr~ver_nm~er~tal agency. and local government officials scheduled for_ Tuesday, Aug=ast 2S, at 7:30 p.m. in tree .Council offices. We will also be meeting individually with the regional par's implementing agencies. The briefings will include a presentation on what has happened in the regional park area during the last five years and a discussion of alternative approaches to problems. There will be an opportunity for general discussion. We invite you to write out a~^~d transmit your thoughts to us either before, at, or no later than seven days after the briefing. This will give us an opportunity to respond to the points you raise. We intend to provide additional ways fur you to participate in the plan revision. The Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Colr~lnission T,aill be discussing the matter at each of its meetings, which are,. of course, open to the public. A public hearing on the plan is to be held later this vear. Prior to the hearing, five informational meetings are to be held at various locat~ons in the lletropolitaTl Area to discuss the plan and answer questions. You will be notified as to tilr~es and places.
