,f <br />PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />MARCH 1, 1978 <br />I. The meeting was ca fled to order by Chairperson Gunderman <br />at 8000 p.m. <br />II. Members presento Carlson, Cook, Dahl, Grimshaw, <br />Gunderman, Johnson, Kern, Olson, Westling <br />III. Minutes of February 13th meeting-approval was delayed <br />pending clarification from Council Represen~ative <br />Blomquist~s statement regarding legality of Park Board's <br />action on Lake Access at February lst meeting. <br />IV. Correspondence - Dahl read resolution from Environmental <br />Quality Commission dated February 20, 1978 <br />V . Unfinished Bus Ines s <br />A. Totem Pole Park <br />Motion by Cook, seconded by krestling, that the Board <br />approve a renovation plan for the park that would en- <br />large the free skating area to the south, enlarge the <br />present parking lot to the west, rework the ball <br />field in its present location, redirect the driveway, <br />and add landscaping to the area between the shelter <br />and the street. The Board also recommends the in- <br />stallation of one permanent tennis court on the site. <br />Motion carried. <br />B. Long Lake Park Plan <br />Residents of the lake area were present to express <br />their views regarding concept plans for Long Lake <br />Park. Views offered included: <br />-Lake access should be left as it now exists. <br />-There are times when the lake is unsafe for <br />boating under existing conditions. <br />-It may be impossible for the City to control <br />surface use since the lake has a deeded bottom. <br />-Home owners were promised, prior to passage of <br />the bond issue, that the lake surface would <br />never be opened up for public use. <br />-A compromise of limited parking would satisfy <br />most people <br />Motion by Kern, seconded by Dahl to receive document <br />submitted by Jerry Bensing at February 13th and March lst <br />meeting. Carried. <br />
