:Date: March 7,1978
Memo. to: Maurice Anderson
cc: George. Carlson Marvin Cook
Ellen Dahl Arlyn Gunderman
Michael Grimshaw Ted Kern
Julia Olson Alan Westling
From: Ken Johnson
Subject: Long Lake Park Concept Plan
It is my understanding that the control of the access in the Eoncept Plan
was to be separated from the plan and be reviewed ata Special Park Board
meeting..
The primary objection raised has been the fear of over-crowding the lake
with too many power boats. The purpose of the Special Park Board meeting.
is to study the alternatives that may be used to control. additional water
surface use. These alternatives should take into consideration the specific
design possibilities of the access and the methods which may be used to
control water surface use thru the City Park Ordinance.
It was. also my understanding that the Concept Plan was to be sent back to ,
the Council with our recommendations.
Picnic Shelters - Shelters be provided to accomodate up to 150 people
in the group picnic area.
Overnight Camping - Retain the camping as proposed in the original .plan.
Canoe Rental - Delete canoe rental facility from plan.
Boat Access - Boat access be located in the south-east portion of
the lake shore,. but that the controls of the access
and the water surface use are deleted from the-plan
and will be addresses as a separate issue.
Along with our recommendations should be a paragraph on each item considered
stating the alternatives and where possible the reason for the recommendation..
