The supervised groups using <br />the camping area will participate in resource management and skill develop- <br />~~ent programs directly associated with the nature center f~icility. <br />The Long Lake segment would emphasize swinuninr, and picnic <br />opportunities of different magnitude. The swiruninc I-,cach which would be <br />serviced by a multi-purpose refectory building (bath-house,refrestiment <br />concession, canoe rental concession, toilets) will serve as the focal point <br />for several picnic areas. <br />The picnic areas would include: 1) a large group area {company picnics <br />- pavilion, ball field, childrens' play area), ?_) small group are~~s (scattered <br />shelters, childrens' play area, open play field), 3) family picnic areas <br />(scattered individual tables and grills), and ~t) blanket picnic areas (no <br />formal facilities other than grassy clearings). <br />A bicycle path would traverse the site c~nc1 connect i:he various activity <br />areas. It would also connect with the pra~~~~sn~f r~~±ional recreation bikeway <br />system on Long Lake Road and Old highway 3. llu~ bikeway corridor will also <br />provide for hiking arld cross country skiing. <br />The south end of the lake (the present beach) is the logical <br />location for the boat access. The New Brighton City Council will <br />have to determine the type and amount of access desired and/or lake ~ <br />surface use regulations. <br />
