78-8
1/18/78
LONG LAKE CONCEPT PLAN
~~
~.~
/~~ /~
The Park Board has completed a year of public meetings and
discussion of options for development of Long Lake Park.
City and Ramsey County Open Space Staff have prepared a plan
which attempts to provide those services most often requested
by residents. The only significant opposition to the plan
as approved by the Park Board, has been from lakeshore resi-
dents who oppose all forms of lake development especially
additional boat traffic. The Park Board is currently studying
lake surface use regulations and intends to have a recommend-
--a~t~i"~o'n to the Council sometime this spring.
~ After a plan has been jointly approved by the City Council
and the Ramsey County Board, it will be forwarded to the
Metropolitan Council Open Space Committee for its approval.
Once approved by all three bodies, the Metro Council can
release funds previously allocated for this site and plans
for construction of fences, plantings, roadways can be drawn
for t78 construction.
The Council has the option of approving the plan as approved
by the Park Board, adopting a revised plan or sending it
back to the Board for revisions.
Staff has been involved in the entire planning process and
feels that the plan, as proposed, reflects the desires of
City residents and yet will meet Metro Council requirements
for regional park funding. Staff recommends approval.
Attached is a concept plan, bikeway plan, and a summary
of planning considerations.
~~~1~L ~'~~~y ~
~; ~~ 4~ ~~
Reported by:
Gary L.
