Z ~
ah passive park activities ah compared to active park activities. I'd like to
~~~~~~~~~ get a. little more explanation from you as to how come suddenly
certain activities became desirous ¢~~ inspite of the input of the park
neighborhood meetings."
M I don`t know that .the word in spite of is necessarily correct. We've been
think, and when I say we I'm talking staff and Pdrk Board that we took the input
this
we interpreted it, granted, that has to be done, but we feel that in our sense
of interpretation, the traditional sense of interpreting lactine "passive' is
wha-t we thought the people. wanted. When we talk about a ball field, for instance
we're talking. about an open area where people can play a game of ball. Tha.t's
not a.n active park but it's something, it's an area where people can play. We
look at our neighborhood bparks a.nd to some extent, and also Hansen Park, as
active parks. They have lighted hockey rinks and tennis courts. They have: ball
fields and skinned in fields, ag lime on them, big high back stops, some of
them ed. Those kinds of things we interpret as an active park.
-This one is primarily pivnicking, biking, hiking. trails, swimming, boat launch
yes, but not necessarily power boats, not necessarily water skiing. Conceivably
canoes and kayaks. Conceivably yes, this could by some definitions be active.
We feel, however that this ss will serve the needs of the residents of New ,
Bright°n very well. Something that is not being met at this time.. And: is
is really ztc passive compared to the rest of the parks that we've developed.
FW Mr. Mayor. pn the second page it says the picnic areas would include
a0 a.h #1 large group area, company picnics, pavillion, ball field, children's
play .area, ah right there you state in your proposal including a ball field and
ah when you say a. ball field it's a ball field. Ah between what you say in
..your report and what you say now there's a. difference. It doesn't jibe.
any
JS Councilman Wer... I'd remind you that in-the open area including your
back yard can be a ball field. Also we would include Metropolitan Stadium.V
Groans from audience.
••• the difference in what the Park Director tried. to tell you was
that this ball {end of tape
