- ~I- -
JS: Okay, any further questions?
- Mr. Mayor. One follow up question to that, maybe a little bit
more specific. Can we restrict the access of motor boats to
the citizens, that is can we prohibit the launching of motor
boats without prohibiting motor boats on the lake entirely,
including lakeshore residents?
MA: Probably not. And this is based on, Don can correct me if I'm
wrong, but the Park Board asked the City Attorney for an opinion
on that. We probably cannot, it would be very difficult to do
anyway.
BB: Tn other words our options are number 1 to ban all motor boats
from the lake, that is other citizen and lakeshore residents. Our
second option would be to restrict the size of the motor, is that
correct?
MA.: Those are two options, yes.
BB: The third option would be to restrict the hours of operation.
MA: Yes. There are different options regarding boat use on the lake
obviously. And it's, the Park Board is working right now on a
park use ordinance which the Council will get hopefully some time
this Spring and the Park Board is attempting to address exactly
that issue. So hopefully we can get the issue of lake use addressed
and solved before any kind of development plan, - long before it
ever comes back to the Council for approval.
- Okay, ah Mr. Mayor.
JS : Yes
- I'd like to ask Maurie a couple of questions. Can you expand a
bit on the, your comments, on the parts of the plan that relate
to the overnight, the camping portion and the concession stand.
I know this is a question that came up at some of the Park Board
hearings. I think by perhaps explaining some of the rationale
and some of the specific elements elements of the Plan might
clarify some of these questions.
MA: Okay. The overnight camping, we're talking about restricting to
groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, that kind
of thing. Only closely supervised groups. Well chaperoned, who
have some kind of a tie in with the Nature Center. We're
envisioning at the site a satellite Nature Center that would be
open oh somewhere between 8 and g months a year. It would not
be open during the winter time, but would be open during the
summer, fall and probably some of the springtime. It could
conceivable be a church group or a scha€~l group in accition to
the other groups that I mentioned earlier, but would be very
tightly controlled, very well supervised and my guess would be
just right off the top of my head, and somebody may hold me to
this some day, but off the top of my head, that we might be
looking at, oh, 25 to 30/ utilization of that Site. The rest
