1501 long Lake Gt.
New Brighton, jinn. 55112
~Iay 1?, 197
New Brighton park Board
City Hall
Re: Long Lake Park
The current plans for the area need careful study.
TR.4FFICr The access routes from the nearby roads and highways need to
be evaluated to see if the traffic into and out of the park
will cause jams. The number of cars entering the park needs
to be estimated, in order to gain the data to determine the:
..size of roads and alloted parking space. The cost of this
vdork needs to be accuaately determined, and the inflationary
effect of government spending to afford such costs.
AN OV.gRI~~Y: The number of uses proposed for the area seems excessive.
The use of plastic overlays on the map, with shading for each
use into each amount of space will give a picture of the crowd-
_ ing expected. If an area terns black, there are too many uses.
ENSTIROH~f~NT The amount of litter, noise and damage to trees and wild-
life should be estimated, based on similar parks, The oil and
gas in the water caused by motor'oats should be determined and
limits set by law.
CONSTRUCTION COSTS: and plumbing, fencing etc. should be determined and
evaluated in the same vaay as the cost of roads.
PERSONNEL: and salaries to maintain the area should be determined. ~.n
effort to prevent vandalism and protect the users of the paki~
should be maintained.
Some guidelines should seem in order. If the area proves to be congested,
the large group area should be eliminated. If the swimming area is affected
by motorboats, the motorboats should be regulated. If the swimming area is
lacking in personnel, the salaries of lifeguards should be considered of
prime importance. A statement of principle on the amount of noise and litter
allojvable should '.oe cleterrair~ed_ by 1avr.
Re: rush Lake
Tnis area ~^,ou1d be suitable for canoes. It ~:rould be preferable to Long
lake. The water quality is under question. .4 sample should be sent to
a State ngen cy for testing and an estimate made to determine the cost of
cleaning up the water and keeping it clean. ~'iany young people have
requested this area for canoes.
~~athy Nritzko
