I
for the handicapped.
A group tent camping area would be located on a plateau overlooking the
south end of Rush Lake and the nature center. The supervised groups using
the camping area will-participate in resource management and skill develop-
merit programs directly associated with the nature center facility.
The Long Lake segment would emphasize swimming, canoe rental and picnic
opportunities of different magnitude. The swimming beach .which would be
serviced by a multi-purpose refectory building (bath-house, refreshment
concession, canoe rental concession, toilets) will serve as the focal point
for several picnic areas.
The picnic areas would include: 1) a large group area (company picnics
~F
- pavilion, ball field, childrens' play area, field for portable concession
stands and amusements), 2) small group areas (scattered shelters, childrens'
play area, open play field), 3) family picnic areas (scattered individual
tables and grills), and. 4) blanket picnic areas (no formal facilities other
than grassy clearings).
A bicycle path would traverse the site and connect the various activity
areas. It would also connect with the proposed regional recreation bikeway
system on Long Lake Road and Old Highway 8. The bikeway corridor will also
provide for hiking and cross country skiing.
