Gunderman, Park I~oard_ Chair~per.son <br />RE : Policy for Nanjing :Parks <br />The Park Board hasbeenrrorking for several months to devise. <br />an orderly system for naming parks as they areadded to our <br />system... ~f major concern at ths~~timearethe Vermont and <br />_ 29th Avenue sites;- howeverat feast two more sites are. nearing <br />the stage where names a:re to ~be..'considered. <br />TheBoardat its~Tovember 5, x.975-m~eti,ngapproved the following <br />~ policy. -1-t is our desire that this _,polic~y be submitted to the <br />City Council for incorporation into:theCity's Administz°ative <br />Code. <br />l~Teighborhood Parks <br />a,. ~Name^ should be selectedearly in the planning process with <br />input atthe time of _neighborhoodmeetings. <br />b . T]arnes v:rould preferably be descriptive of the location and <br />should be meaningful tothose who will be using them. <br />c. Neighborhood parks should not benamedafter aperson. <br />d. Park names ~rrouldbe~ubmitted by the Park Board to the City <br />Council for approval. <br />Special-~Tse or Community Parks <br />a . darks should be named early-~in the planning process . <br />b. Could be named after or include in name some geogra.phie <br />charac teris~tics . <br />c. Could be named. after a person only if-a significant dedication <br />has been sho~~,~n by this person toward parks and recreation. <br />d. Par}~ names would be 'submitted by the Park-Board to the City <br />Council for ap'proval.. <br />
