PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />January 9~ 1975 <br />Park Board meeting was called to order at 8:0~ p.m. <br />Board members present: Dahi, Gunderman, Smith, Sullivan and Weissman. <br />Board members absent: Cook and Jasinski. <br />Others present: Dottie Stone and Chellney Bier, League of Women Voters; <br />Mary Rue Schutta and Dale Seppa, Citizens Study Committee; Dick Keister, <br />Bob Wheelecor, Matt Schreifels, Sohn Hedberg, Bill Burns, Helen and Gil <br />Gove, Tom Boudreau, Arlyn Bjorklund, Jim Checco and Bob Piche, New <br />Brighton representation - Lake Region Hockey Association; Dick Ginkel, <br />Tom Krocak and Doug Turnbull, New Brighton representation for 29th <br />Street park site and Maurice Anderson, Director of Parks and Recreation. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of December ~-, 1.97- were received <br />and approved as written. <br />Irondale Improvements - Letter from James Colletti was received <br />asking the City of New Brighton to go ahead with improvements at the <br />Irondale softball field whether or not the lights were installed.. Park <br />Board plans to respond when issue is resolved by the School Board. <br />Civic/Community Center - Dale Seppa of the Citizens Study Committee <br />reviewed with the Board the survey conducted by the Fark and Recreation <br />Department last Spring to which their Committee attached a survey <br />concerning general questions about a civic/community center. Seppa <br />stated that the survey was not specifically looking at an ice arena, <br />instead a general approach was made towards a civic/community center <br />and what residents desired in such a center. Referral was made to <br />the "Civic/Community Center Study" prepared by the Committee and <br />discussion pursued. <br />Ice Arena - The Park Board was brought up to date concerning the subject <br />of an ice arena in relation to a feasibility study to determine whether <br />or not a hockey arena could be constructed in New Brighton. Information <br />was released that in-house it would take approximately three months time <br />and with a consultant, the cost would be $6,000 at the bottom up to <br />if of the total costs, which could be $15,000 to $20,000. Question was <br />asked of the Park Board from the Lake Region group if there had ever <br />been a feasibility study done in New Brighton. Gunderman replied that <br />two or three attempts have been made. Sullivan asked if it were a <br />possibility to go ahead with a feasibility study that the funding <br />standpoint might be a joint-finance operation as long as the arena is <br />not just going to serve New Brighton. It was answered that yes it was <br />a possibility; however, money is tight. Lake Region asked if coopera- <br />tive ventures with the City Council and School District were possible. <br />Gunderman gave the Board background information regarding the City's <br />
