• • <br />~~') <br />Department Report <br />l.) Golf Course Status - The Board was informed that Ramsey County <br />is not interested in acquisition of the Brightwood Hills Golf <br />Course. There may be some cooperation on a special legislation <br />package for banding authority9 Ramsey County is currently tied <br />up with other acquisitions. The City has resolutions from <br />Ramsey County indicating support of a special legislative pro- <br />posal. The City Council will consider on December 10th a <br />.resolution supporting enactment of special legislation providing <br />funds for acquisition of the golf course by Ramsey County. <br />Realistically, the chances of acquiring the site are slim, <br />however, the City staff will be contacting legislators and <br />assist in preparing the legislation. The support of Ramsey <br />County delegation is crucial. <br />2. ) M.R.P.A. Conference -The 197- Fall M.R.P.A. Conference was <br />reported to be an overall success. <br />3.) Community Education Development - The Board was informed that <br />Barry Bauer has been reinstated to the position of Community <br />Education Coordinator on a part-time basis until June 1975, <br />at which time the position will return to full-time. Bauer <br />has hired an Administrative Assistant, Question was asked by <br />.Dahl regarding the school district's position on pools. It was <br />explained that the pools will be continued to be operated by <br />the schools through the remainder of the 1971-75 .school year. <br />4.) Ice Rink Plans - Department announced to the Board that the <br />Maintenance crew of the Park and Recreation Department has be- <br />gun to work on the ice rinks with plans of opening the shelters <br />mid-December. <br />5.) Shade Tree Status - Final report is being submitted to the <br />Council regarding the City's Shade Tree Disease Control Program <br />for 197 . <br />6.) Cooperative Recreation Programs - Department stated it would <br />like to see an open gym session at Silver Oak Elementary School <br />this winter and a joint-effort summer playground program at <br />same. Gunderman requested status report from Sullivan and <br />Corlett regarding Silver Oak development plans. <br />7.) Program for Teens - Dahl has been approached by Human Rights <br />Commission in regards to "programming" for teens, and if the <br />Department provides sufficient activities for them. Department <br />was requested to check with Community Educati on Department and <br />see what they are doing as far as input is concerned and also <br />suggested the same from New Brighton's Juvenile-Community <br />Relations Officer. <br />
