;~)
Review of Tennis Court Scheduling Alternatives
It was explained to the Board that the only examples of tennis court
scheduling were those v~hich involved some kind of formal supervision
and such supervision was not available at Hansen Park. Sullivan commente~:
that the problem had slackened off since school was out and smaller
children could play tennis during the day. It was suggested that if
abuses of the present system occurred, they should be reported to the
vlayground supervisor, who would take corrective action.
Department Report
A) .Golf Course - Smith commented that he felt that the golf course
would be available for City purchase and that if it were not
purchased then it would be developed for residential use. Weissman
moved that the Board should investigate the intentions of the present
golf course owner with respect to disposition of his property.
Seconded by Dahl. Approved 5-C.
B) Park Dedication Ordinance - It was explained that the City
Attorney was still of the opinion that a park dedication ordinance
for New Brighton would be discriminatory to those few developers
attempting to construct homes. The Board, however, felt that such
an ordinance would have some benefit to the City. Motion by Dahl
to inform the Planning Commission that the Park Board strongly
supports inclusion of a recommendation for a park dedication ordinance
in the Community Facilities Component of the Comprehensive Plan.
Such ordinance should involve an option of land or money. Seconded
by Smith. Approved 5-0.
C) Ramsey County Park Project - The Board was notified that the
Council had authorized the administration to begin discussions
with Ramsey County Open Space staff relative to a joint powers
-agreement for development and operation of the Long Lake/Rush Lake
areas.
D) Jaycees - The Board v,Tas notified that the Jaycees had received
a sign permit to construct a sign on the east side of Hansen Park.
E) SursTey - The Board was notified that the survey results were
approximately one-half way completed. A.t this point, information
is developing in a significant manner.
M.R.P.A. Tour
Dahl reported that she attended the Board and Commission Section
Meeting of the M.R.P.A. It included a tour of the facilities in
Minneapolis, Richfield, Bloomir.~ton and Hennepin County. She stated
that it was a very favorable session.
