.SN'.' 4 ss /1-4 ..
S ~ {"~ ~O
. _ ~S' i
\~/
} ~ ~~}
Dahl commented that she felt it ~JOUld be valuable to establish such. '~
~..,~, trails in the parks and even possibly connect the parks.
~.
`'It was pointed out that the Village has a unique situation in that
~~. Freeway 69~+ and Rice Creek Road both bisectwere countyeroads~heThese r
~ available crossings of these two obstacles
x county. roads are very heavily txaveled and would be difficult to
- make safe for recreational biking. As an alternative, it was-
suggested that recreational biking does not necessarily require a
trail that goes anywhere. In most cases bikers are seeking primarily
ri exercise and trails that even go in a circle may satisfy their needs
Dahl agreed, however, she stated that the trail using school-sites-
and parks as nodes would establish a pattern and provide not only'
a facility for exercise but would also provide a safe route for -
~'-. ~ children who do use bikes to get to specific places. .
3 '.
~ ested the use of vehicle control devices such as cross-walk
Cook sugg
lights as an aid for bikers crossing busy streets.
Smith agreed that safety was a problem and that a trail of some type =~
`~ would be valuable. T
The Board revieUred the bike route which St. Anthony Village had
.F- established recently. Their route merely irS'dicated streets which _
would .provide a continuous trail through the Vil1_age. It is marked
" by signs, not by any type of road marking or special-facilities for;
bikes . `
,~ Dahl suggested that any trails that the Village were to establish
f~ -should be lined up with St. Anthony's route if at all possible..
~.
It was further suggested that St. Anthony be contacted to determine
.-haw they went about establishing their route. Also Board members
Mere encouraged to consider potential bike routes by the next meeting.
Hagemeyer requested that the item be placed on the agenda for September
~~~ in an attempt to try to have something established for next spring.
,Smith brought up the fact that Old Highway 8 ifras being upgraded and ,
~~ suggested that some type of bike path facility be included in the
?; . planning for this project . - '
:;;; - ~ , ,
:~;;; Department Report
De artment explained that there had been several items which the `
P
~ Board had requested to investigate over the past several months and
the opportunity had not presented itself to report back to the Board. ,.
.k It was suggested that this opportunity be taken by the Board to-ask
ri' questions on these items which were of interest.
. -
S-
`d
-~
~..
~,_ ' _ ~,
~~s Y ...~ '^`.°""`' -...SES°'.~.....r._:t''~....~`..r"~.~_:~~..~.~.`, ~~&E.°...;`~._,.rh~`..„. .:+,"~.b~t ~:`"....°.t...d-T.,a?:.:..~.,.. ....~....aw..w...... _~~.,.. .~.o.~...,..w,.....~::~i
