Park Board Meeting
Page 3
Gunderman suggested that citizen ~pr~ure)should be exertedCon the school
board to obtain community use of~the school's hockey rinks in New Brighto
This ~hould relieve some of the pressure on municipal rinks. He re-
commended that Smith, U?eissman and Wicklund form a subcommittee to
recommend a course of action to be reported back to the Board.
Lighted School House
Gunderman explained that School District 621 has applied for state.
funds to initiate a lighted school house program in-the district.
This program involves community utilization of school facilities. He
suggested that New Brighton was in a position to obtain at least a
portion of the program within the Village.
Smith9as the representative of the Park Board on the School District's
Recreation Committee, was going to be attending a meeting to discuss
this program. It was suggested that he inform the school district
that the Village-would be prepared to assist initiation of this program
in New Brighton..
Rush Lake
Dahl informed the Board that she attended the public hearing on the
land use plan. The Rush Lake area was discussed at the meeting and
it was indicated by those attending that a final decision had been
made concerning county purchase of property in the Rush Lake area.
This decision excluded the purchase of Rush Lake itself. She felt
that in the course of the Board's discussion of this matter that it was
not a final decision but merely an input of the moment and that further
discussion would be held when the county presented concrete proposals.
The Board requested that the council be informed that its previous
recommendation concerning the county's involvement in the Rush Lake
area was only a preliminary recommendation ar~d that they hoped that
the opportunity was available to discuss this issue in more detail.
Department Report
1. The Board was informed of the first meeting of the New Brighton
Senior Citizen's Club. ^1 he meeting was attended by 31 people and
it appears that potential for a viable organization is excellent.
2. The Fourth of July Celebration at Hansen Park generally was
successful. The park emerged in tact with little damage despite
the large number of people attending. The University of Minnesota
Band will present two additional concerts in the park this summer..
