SPECIAL PARK BOARD MEETING <br />November 16, 1971 <br />The meeting was called to order at 9:15 P.M. <br />Board Members Present: Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock and <br />Council Representative Moen. <br />Smith appeared at 9:20 P.M. <br />Absent: Cook, Weissman <br />Also Present: Councilman Fisher, Village Residents, Robert Wicklund, <br />Director of Parks and Recreation.. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of November 3, 1971 were approved <br />as submitted. <br />RAMSEY COUNTY OPEN SPACE PLAN <br />The Board discussed the administrative report on the Ramsey County <br />Open Space Plan. Sherlock stated that the report appeared to sum <br />up the Board's position as delineated in past discussions. Hagemeyer <br />asked if any further consideration should be given to the possibility <br />of turning the Long Lake park property over to the County to accelerate <br />the development of the site. It was indicated that past Park Board <br />discussion had discarded this possibility. <br />-Dahl suggested that the Park Board inform other communities of the <br />Council's action on the Board's recommendation. Hagemeyer agreed and <br />asked that the County be requested to keep all communities informed <br />of major development in the Open Space Plan. <br />Sherlock moved that the Park Board submit the report on the Ramsey <br />County .Open Space Plan to the Council with a recommendation that the <br />report be approved and submitted to the County Board. <br />Second by Smith <br />Motion carried. <br />PARK LAND ACQUISITION <br />It was reported to the Board that the Council had directed the Village <br />Attorney to secure an appraisal on the Vermont Park property. The <br />attorney is also negotiating with the owners of a parcel of property <br />in the northwest corner of the Village. However, at this point it was <br />thought to be advantageous to keep such negotiations somewhat confidential <br />to prevent an undue escalation of price. <br />Residents of the northwest area appeared before the Board to state <br />their support for any park acquisition in the area and to present <br />evidence of need-for such acquistion.
