r
Gur-derman suggested that the Board consider some recommended uses for
the proposed County Park so that the Park Board could offer the couatty
representatives an alternative.. He also stated that it might be helpful to
split the parcel of land into several pieces and establish a priority for
each piece.
Dahl stated that she felt the highest priorities were the protection of
Rice Creek on both sides of the Lake and the maintenance of Rush Lake in a
natural state.
Sherlock suggested that before the specifics can be considered it was
necessary to know what the philosophy of the County was for the park.
It was requested that the list of concerns be sent to the county represen-
tatives and a meeting date be established.
PARK LIGHTING
The problem with the lighting situations at Sunny Square, Freedom and
Totem Pole Park toes discussed. This matter was referred, to the Park Board
by the Council in a letter from the Lake Region Hockey Association. Two
potential solutions were offered; placing an extention on the top of the
poles or adding two poles to each rink.
Hagemeyer inquired as to the severity of this problem. Smith answered
that the present situation was a safety hazard. Sherlock asked how the
existant lighting compared with other communities rinks. Smith stated that
in terms of other Lake Region Communities it compared well but over the total
metro area the lighting fares poorly.
The Board requested that cost estimates be obtained for the alternative
solutions.
DEPARTMENT REPORT
The Board reviewed the Summer Playground Program, the beach operation,
the retired mens work program and the acquisition of,-sod for Hansen Park
from the water improvement project underway in the Village.
Meeting adjourned at 10:10 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert M, wicklund
Director of Parks and Recreation
