a.
r
c
~ ~ ~ ~c`=
-2-
i1 of New Brighton -
or 1971-72 .Seas on:
se on Upgrade of Facilities
r. growth pattern indicates there may be a
ed for additional rinks in the Pike Lake
d the area west of Silver. Lake Koad and
could be arranged with sharing the High~View
Jr. High rink. The. area around Sunny Square
Park should be o. k. as the,Village of Mounds
View has plans-to build a rink in that`-area.
The problem of rink location 'is the most
difficult to address as the. concentration
of participants seems to vary every 4 to 5
years in our .Youth Program..
b.; The warming shelter at Veterans Park should
be upgraded and the height of the boards
raised to 48 inches.
~:
c. Lighting
1. The two new rinks at the Kichard J. Hausen
Park are very good.
2. The rink lighting at Totem Freedom and
Sunny Square should be upgraded:- The pres-
ent lighting could be revised at minimum.
cost to resolve this problem. The lights
at Veterans.Park should be completely re-
mounted.
The lighting problem is controversial in
all the villages that are served by Lake Region,
_ Our organization feels that this is-not a-c{ues-
_ ~ tion of a "nice extra" for the rink but. a pos-
tive safety factor. As our organization grows '
we are seeing more older .,boys participating.
'. They skate faster, shoot harder, and the pros-
ent lighting (with f.ew exceptions) is not ade-
quate to assurethat a boy can see the puck
when it leaves the ice surface. A small in-
vestment will insure a-much safer facility.
-: .:
