w Park Board Minutes
May 6, 19?0
2
A discussion followed to determine whether a location for the building
should be recommended. It was decided to defer this pending a later
meeting with the architect and planner. The construction of the
tennis courts would depend on timing and location will depend on
building location. Carried
Perro Letter
Mr. Wicklund read a letter received from Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Perro
praising the rink attendants at the Pike Lake Rink.
Motion by Barnhill, seconded by Sherlock to receive the letter into
the minutes, Carried
Rice Creek Property Sale
The sale of the north 1.6 acres of the Rice Creek property was
discussed. The following bids have been receiveds
Keith Harstad $3,155.00
Dutcher Prop. 2,100.00
White Oak Bldrs. 2,700.00
The White Oak Builders bid did not conform to specifications.
Discussion ensued wherein it was explained that assessments on the
street through the property would be $28,000 to $30,000 against the
Park and Recreation Department if the sale was not made. Were t'ne
sale made the assessments against the Department would be $11,OOO:to
$13,000 for the one side of the street retained. Ron Nelson of the
Rice Creek Homeowners Association, stated that his organization was
against the sale as long-range park development would likely tie this
site into the whole Rice Creek-Sunnyside area. The Board was surveyed
and the consensus was that park land was a valuable asset and can not
be easily replaced. Selling at a later date would even appreciate
the value were such a sale deemed necessary,
Motion by Sherlock, seconded by Barnhill to recommend that .the Council
reject all bids on the property.. Carried
Summer Program
The summer recreation program was reviewed. The shelter bviilding will
open approximately June 8 with Sunnyside and Foss Road operating from
1x00 p,m. to 9:00 p,m, and Pike Lake from 500 to 9000 p.m. with the
opening of Pike Lake dependent on the field condition. The beach will
open June 5 depending on the weather. The program and staffing will be
similar to last year with 5 lifeguards on a rotating schedule. Some
grading has been done on the beach and a new fishing dock will be
available. There will be no permanent structure on the beach site.
Mr. Moen commented that tighter supervision of ticket selling should be
instituted. Mr. Moen alsa mentioned that the teen center had $300 in
a fund which they would like to contribute to the beach program and
suggestions would be appreciated. A new guard boat was considered as
a possibility.
