Members Presents Barnhill, Dahl, Hagemeyer, Gunderman, Sherlock,.
Weissman and Council Representative Moen
Others: Robert W. Schaefer, Village Manager and Robert Wicklund,
Park and Recreation Director
Minutes of Special Meeting of April 22, 1970 were approved as submitted.
Mr .Schaefer introduced the new Director of Parks and Recreation,
Robert M. Wicklund,to the Park Board and the citizens present at the
meeting .
Seventh Street Building Plans.
Discussion began on the 7th Street Building plans. It was explained
that if the architect's fourth alternative, a permanent structure,
~ti~as selected then construction would have to start on June 1, Because
a*,aGrds •`n ~che Long Lake site will no~c be releaseu until Juiy ~r F,ugusi~,,
it would not be known what monies would be available for the building
at the time construction was began. Mr. Gunderman stated that he felt
it would be best to attempt development of a permanent structure for
aesthetic reasons. Mr. Sherlock concurred stating that money would
likely be available when it was needed.
It was explained that utilities would not be a major problem for a
permanent structure as service could be installed to the lst phase core
shelter under consideration with expansion added as the building was
completed.
Mr. Moen asked that Mr. Wicklund undertake a study to determine what
function the lst phase building should serve.
Mr. Rolland Hokanson, from the 7th Street Park Association, read a
statement from the group requesting that a temporary structure not
be constructed on the park and if the Lake Region Hockey Association
required such a structure then a hockey program be deferred at 7th
Street until such time a permanent structure is built. Mr. Moen
expressed the feeling that the Board's philosophy was similar to that
of the Association.
Motion by Weissman, seconded by Dahl to recommend to the Council that
Mr. Dickey, the architect, be consulted for designs on a permanent
1st phase structure with considerations for addition in the future.
