.~.' ~ <br />SPECIAL PARK BOARD MEETING <br />June 10, 1970 <br />The meeting was Galled to order at 8:17 <br />Board Members present: Barnhill, Dahl, Gunderman, Sherlock, Smith, <br />Council Representative Moen <br />Hagemeyer appeared at 8:30 <br />Absent: Weissman <br />Also Present: ..Arthur Dickey, Architect, and Robert Wicklund, Director <br />of Parks and Recreation <br />Long Lake Site Acquisition <br />The status of the condemnation proceedings for the Long Lake prop~rtiPs <br />~Nas explained to the Board. The awards will be made by the Commission. <br />c~~~ or before July 31, 1970. From the time of the award each side h«s <br />4~0 days within which to appeal those awards. If the Village wishes <br />to abandon its decision to condemn it must do so within that 40 day <br />i <br />period or it has bought the land regardless of the outcome of future.. <br />appeals. The Village Attorney feels that appeals on two or three o` <br />the properties is likely because of the large range between the <br />appraisals brought in by each side. <br />One parcel, a 40 foot lot in the Boardman Addition, has been settled. <br />Seventh Street Build in <br />Mr. Dickey explained that during meetings with the Director of Parks <br />and Recreation it had become evident there was a misunderstanding as <br />to the completion date for a permanent structure at Seventh Street. <br />It had been his original intent to begin construction in early spring <br />or 1971 for use in winter 1971-72. The Board on the other hand was <br />planning for use of the structure by winter 1970-71. An accelerated <br />~~ork schedule would be possible according to Mr. Dickey based on the <br />following estimated time table: <br />July 1 - concept sketches for entire community center <br />August 10 - working drawings of shelter phase <br />September 1 - advertise and accept bids <br />September 15 - begin construction <br />'~"ompletion of the building could be expected in from two to foar <br />~ronths. <br />Mr. Gunderman asked if the other work on the site would be completed <br />in time for the skating season. If the T.~ork goes according to contJ.ac~~ <br />and barring-unusual delays such as the driver`s strike which held up <br />~~~mmencement of construction for one month, the work will be comp~i_eted <br />=~::~ .time <br />
