Hansen Park Play Structure
The present status of the structure was explained to the Board. The
Village Council at its meetingof July 28, 1970 had reviewed the
Park Board's recommendation to remove the beam across the north slide
and remove the high dive platform on the north side. The Council
approved removal of the beam but voted to add a railing along the
north slide rather than remove the platform.
The Board discussed the other modifications suggested at the previous.
meeting and the cost of these changes. Item 1, lowering the entire
structure by 3 feet was generally considered to be too costly.
Sherlock and Hagemeyer stated that they were pleased with the structure
and the children were using it heavily. It was their feeling that
some of the modifications appeared to be changed for the sake of
change. Hagemeyer said that the Council action had accomplished a
part of Item 2, adding railings along the head of each, slide and he
would favor completion of that proposal. Dahl stated that in talking
to the children playing in the area, Item 4, filling in open area in
the southeast corner of the first deck level with flooring, appeared
to have their approval. Item 3, enclosing the southwest wall with
vertical slats did not receive any support.
Motion by Sherlock, to reject Items 1, 3, and 4 and recommend completion
of Item 2. Seconded by Smith - Motion Carried
Pr_aceedings on Lpnq Lake Condemnation
A letter from the Village Attorney, Mr. Perry Copeland, was submitted
detailing the Commissioner's awards on the Long .Lake site. The total
award for all nine parcels is $534,450.00. These awards are subject
to appeal. by the present owners and Mr. Copeland's ~.etter stated that
this was a distinct possibility on five of the parcels. The Village
has 40 days within which a decision must be made whether to accept
the awards or abandon the proceedings. Once"the awards are accepted
