Park Board Minutes <br />August 5, 1970 <br />Page 2 <br />the property belongs to the Village at whatever price the appealed <br />awards are set at by the court. <br />The Park Board reviewed the awards and discussed possible action, <br />Motion by Hagemeyer, to recommend that the Council accept the <br />Commissioner's awards and continue the proceedings - seconded by <br />Dahl - Motion carried <br />Progress of Work at Richard J. Hansen Park <br />The contractor's work at Richard J. Hansen Park was reviewed. <br />Bullock and Company has finished the baseball areas, laid the road <br />and parking Lots and put in the water and sewer lines. They are au <br />present constructing the tennis courts. Rehbein and Sons, sod and <br />seed contractor, has completed the majority of his work although <br />patching and re-seeding will be necessary in some areas. Therefore, <br />the contractor's work is almost entirely completed. In light of this <br />a request for patience on the Pa rt of the citizenry was made by the <br />nark and Recreation Department. The nature of the soil conditions is <br />going to create difficulty in maintaining the park in an optimum <br />condition. It will take more time with this site than other sites <br />for maturity to be reached. Sherlock stated that any land fill and <br />peat area is unstable and will take 2 or 3 years to settle. The <br />Board indicated recognition of the situa tion. <br />The contract execution for architectural work on the ,~a rk building <br />was deferred by the Council pending the Long Lake awards so that the <br />park fund's position could be re-assessed. Action can be expected <br />at the Council Meeting of August 11. <br />Cooperative Housing <br />Mrs. Charles Dahl reported on a meeting co-sponsored by the Village <br />Duman Rights Commission and a local developer,. The meeting was <br />intended to inform Village officials on the nature of cooperative <br />housing and to assess their reaction toward such a development in <br />New Brighton. Those attending the meeting appeared to be receptive <br />although it was felt that a great deal of educating the p~ablic var~uld <br />have to be done as the general reaction to high density and, low-cost <br />housing is often negative. <br />Sherlock questioned the need for more multiple residence housing in <br />New Brighton. The Board then discussed the concept of cooperative housi.n <br />No action was taken. <br />Department Activity <br />1. The Council's reconsideration and decision to sell the 1.6 acre <br />plot of Rice Creek Park was discussed. No action was taken by the <br />Board. <br />
