4 Park Board Meeting <br />,. October 7, 197Q <br />2 <br />The plan calls far rough-sawn cedar board and batten siding with a <br />gable roof and 1%" plywood floor. Metal doors and window frames <br />will be used with plexiglass windows, The structure will be mounted <br />on skids to facilitate moving. The design was determined to be the <br />best combination of durability, economy and aesthetic appeal. Smith <br />asked if there would be any interior siding included as children <br />could kick through the cedar exterior with their skates. Sherlock <br />also expressed concern on this matter. .Barnhill and Sherlock <br />questioned the lack of insulation stating that the loss of heat from <br />the oil heating system could be expensive. It was explained that <br />these items would be provided for in the plan presented to the Council. <br />Smith moved that the plan be recommended to the Council for approval. <br />Seconded by Barnhill, Motion passed. <br />Department Report <br />The Council has reviewed the Parks and Recreation budget for 1971 <br />as submitted by the Village Manager with regard to current expenses <br />and capital outlay. Major items of interest include an additional <br />park maintenance man to start July 1 and playground equipment for <br />Veterans Park, <br />The forty-day appeal period has expired on the Long Lake property. <br />Parcels 2, 3, and 7 were not appealed. The trials on parcels 1, 4, <br />5, 6, 8 and 9 will be held individually with the exception of parcels <br />4, 5, and 6 which are owned by the same individual. <br />A proposed design for a Department Seal was shown to the Board. <br />Barnhill moved that it be accepted officially by the Board. <br />Seconded by Sherlock. Motion passed. <br />Ageneral description of the fall recreation programs was given. <br />Included are a Mens Basketball League, Pre-School Nursery Program, <br />series of children`s trips and Ladies Day Out event. <br />The specifications for the rest shelters involved in the Jaycees <br />Hansen Park project have been sent to the chairman of the project. <br />Everything appears to be on schedule. <br />New Business <br />Dahl reported that the Name the Park Contest would begin the week of <br />October 12. The entry blanks will be handed out in the schools and <br />published in the New Brighton Bulletin. The judges representing. each <br />of the organizations involved and the Park Board have been selected. <br />There was a problem in securing prize monies .and Board members <br />suggested several possibilities.. One prize of $25 will be awarded <br />
