Attempting to put the structure at the bottom of the hill
would be hazardous to sledders in the winter. Moving it to the
south and east would place it immediately adjacent to the parking
lot and play areas should never be that close to moving traffic.
3. The distance from the homes to the structure is 130 feet and with
the plantings which will be placed on the hill this should provide
a sufficient noise and sight barrier.
4. The esthetics of the ,structure are a value judgment. The materials
and design are specifically intended to blend into the area and are
much superior to chrome steel, for example, in this respect.
5. All playground equipment is dangerous to some degree and this piece.
is no more or less than the majority of others.* It provides all
the protection possible while maintaining some adventure and
challenge to the child.
6. This structure will likely not effect the level of late-night
activity that goes on in this heavily wooded area at the present
time.
As has been mentioned previously, this has become a very emotional issue'
and some very enthusiastic discussion~at the meeting is expected to occur.
It would definitely be to the Board`s advantage for each member to go up
to the site and personally view the situation. If you have any further
questions, please call the Park and Recreation Department, 633-1533.
* Dimensions of similar commercial equipment:
Jamison Company
Geodesic Climber 10' height, no railing
Crows Nest Slide 9~' deck, 22' railing
Surfer Slide 9%' height
Imagine City Slide 12' height
Nautilus Submarine 11' height,` no railing
Prairie Schooner Climber 8' height, no railing
Castle Chute 92' height, 2~' railing
Spacemaker Slide 92' height, 1z' railing
