<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />September 23, 1986 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued <br /> <br />Benke reported he and Sinda attended a meeting of the North Sub- <br />urban Mayors Association last week with the primary item for <br />consideration being selection of people to help put together a <br />needs assessment and a plan of action for joint activities for <br />the north suburban area. A consultant's recommendation <br />suggested one of the things to be done is the formation of a <br />development corporation and a development bank to help finance <br />all development projects; the Association felt that might be <br />putting the cart before the horse. <br /> <br />Locke will be attending a sub-committee meeting on Thursday to <br />reassess the situation of a needs assessment. <br /> <br />Gunderman stated the Centennial Commission has met three times, <br />articles are being written for the "Bulletin," Judy Goepel has <br />been hired as Coordinator, the Commission has formed subsections, <br />and everything is running smoothly. <br /> <br />Brandt stated she had inquiries about appointments to the <br />Commission; felt Councilmembers should be aware of changes in <br />the Commission or vacancies on subcommittees. <br /> <br />Benke stated interested persons should be encourages to contact <br />Gunderman or the co-chairs, Roger Blomquist and Ed Walhof. <br /> <br />Brandt stated she met with the Director of the Youth Service <br />Bureau and was given very good information. <br /> <br />Brandt stated John Kelley, Chief of Police, was elected as <br />Chairman of Stockyard Days, Inc. and the major event next year <br />will be the State Highschoo1 Rodeo which will draw from surround- <br />ing states. <br /> <br />Brandt attended the judges swearing-in ceremony and had the <br />opportunity to talk to two Representatives, both assured her that <br />New Brighton would never lose its veto power over any question of <br />removing the court from the city. <br /> <br />Benke stated all lawn signs had been removed since the primary and <br />suggested that signs could be placed on lawns beginning Saturday, <br />October 4, 1986, and asked staff to write letters to the candidates <br />advising them of same. <br /> <br />Page Sixteen <br /> <br />North Suburban <br />Mayors Associa- <br />tion Update <br /> <br />Centennial <br />Commission <br />Update <br /> <br />YSB Update <br /> <br />Stockyard Days <br />Update <br /> <br />Court Consolidation <br /> <br />Campaign Signs <br />
