o <br />LETTER TO THE EDITOR: <br />Concern has been aroused regarding 5th Street and the potential of <br />it going directly through the Seventh Street Park site. <br />The road being built through the park has been in the comprehensive <br />park plan since its. inception (1966). This road is designed to complement <br />the park type setting in that it is a winding road limiting speed by <br />its many curves. The purpose of the road is to provide adequate access <br />for: public .use, proper supervision or serveillance and mainte nance <br />of f ec iency. <br />Running 5th Street N.W. directly through the park has never been <br />proposed nor considered since the inception of the plan. The Village <br />Council fully endorses the comprehensive park plan and has no intention <br />of altering the concept. Federal and State agencies have approved the <br />detailed plans and since Federal and State funds have .been acquired on <br />the basis of that approval, no major changes can be made without their <br />approval. Any major change must be one which will improve or enhance <br />the .concept. It would be impossible to improve or enhance this site by <br />cutting it in half with a major thoroughfare. <br />One change to the road has already been made in that it now comes <br />directly off of .the south end of 13th Avenue, rather than coming off of <br />5th Street and curving south. This was caused by the discovery of fault. <br />in the land where the road originally ran making it impossible to <br />construct at that point. It is interesting to note that this fault lies <br />
