This road is designed to complement
Yj
the park type setting in that it is a winding road limiter
~x.~
by its many curves. The purpose of the road is to provide adequate
access for public use, proper supervision or serveillance and maintenance
effeciency.
'Running 5th Street N.W, directly through the pa.r_k has never been
proposed nor considered since the inception of the plan. The Village
Council fully endorses the comprehensive-park plan and has no intention
'o.f altering the concept. Federal and State agencies ,have approved the.
detailed plans and since Federal and-State funds have been acquired on
the basis of that approval, no major changes can be made without their
approval. Any major cha2?ge must be one w'nich will improve or enhance
.,\
the concept. It would be ir~epossible to improve or enhance this site by
cutting it in half with a major\thoroughfare.
One change to the road has already been made in that it now comes
directly off of the south end of 13th `Avenue, rather than coming off of
`\
5th Street and curving south. This was caused by the discovery of fault
in the land where the road originally ran making it impossible to
coazstruct at that point. It is .interesting to note that this fault lies
in.a direct line between 5th Street (west side) and 5th Street (east side),
thus further dispelling the current rumor.
