The statement is Copied here in the minuteso <br />league of Women Voters -Statement of Positiono Nov. 1966 <br />Support of a Comprehensive, long-range park acquisition and develop- <br />cnent program for° the Village of New Brighton, with emphasis on re- <br />so~irce ~°sar i anted, regional -community s i tes . <br />Details of Position. <br />T'he 8_eague of Women. Voters of-.New Brighton recommends that the Village <br />of New Brighton provide additional open space for recreation, with the <br />goal of approaching as nearly as possible the nationally recommended <br />standard of ten acres of open space per thousand of the ultimate popu- <br />fation. This space should be acquired in the very near .future to avoid <br />physical or financial pre-emption of suitable sites. Acquisition should <br />be made primarily through the conventional channels of negotiated pur- <br />chase, or condemnation where deemed necessary, and financed by a C~mbina- <br />tion of geaaeral obligation bonds and federal and/or state aid programs. <br />The League favors a comprehensive, resoarce=oriented park program which <br />wouBd provide a wide variety of recreationaB~opportunities and take-ad- <br />vantage. of natural features, Emphasis in the vi8iage program sh©uid be <br />placed can regional-community sites rather"than c~eighborhood parks, It <br />is felt that many neighborhood proposed scoot sites, and that there <br />should be coordinated planning for park development between school <br />district and village to avoid duplication. Present village emphasis <br />sh®uBd be on acquisition of land, but definite plans for early first= <br />phase developments on all new sites should be incBuded. <br />Chairman ~underman asked Mrs. Snetsinger it there were any specific thoughts or ideas <br />expressed by the members ~°egarding parks. Mrs. Snetsinger replied that there was. one <br />nearly unanimous feeling acid that was: an objection to neighborhood parks. <br />
