Anders~~~fY.~ector of Parks and Recreation <br />Re: Recreation Programming Issues <br />Arly and I have recently had some discussions on the need for <br />developing recreation programs to fill the void created by the <br />changes in summer school programming.. I have also had .recent <br />discussions with the Community Education Department and they are <br />willing to work with us (and other cities.) to develop a cooperative/ <br />comprehensive summer scholastic/recreation program. <br />This is a new area of program endeavor and staff is requesting input <br />from the Park Board in at least the following areas: <br />1) During these times of fiscal constraints for public agencies, <br />should program expansion be considered. <br />2) If "push comes to .shove" is this programming essential <br />enough to force abandonment of some existing programs. <br />3) From the following list, which activities does the board <br />think should receive priority attention: <br />CHILDREN & YOUTH <br />-Lifetime Sports badminton, <br />golf., tennis, raquetball, <br />archery). <br />-Canoe Regatta <br />-Canoe Lessons <br />-Wind Surfing <br />-Fishing Derby <br />-Movies <br />-Floor Hockey <br />-Woodworking & Plastics <br />-Creative Cooking <br />-Outdoor Cookery <br />-Day Camp <br />-Art Camp and/or <br />Art in the .Park <br />(weaving, ceramics, <br />pottery, jewelry making) <br />-Photography <br />-Crafts-Nature Leathercraft-, <br />Candles, Soft Sculpture <br />-Games Galore (expand this <br />offering to more than one <br />location) <br />-Jazzercise - outdoor setting <br />-Tap and Ballet - indoor <br />-Baton <br />-Puppetry <br />-Creative Dramatics- <br />-Gardening - "How Does Your Garden <br />Grow?" <br />-Trips - (Plan to continue one a <br />week for at least 7 weeks as we <br />did last year <br />-Pedal Power/Bicycle Trips <br />WILL CONTINUE: <br />-Puppet Wagon <br />-Tots & Tykes <br />-T-Ball <br />-Softball <br />--Swimming <br />-Gymnastics <br />Day Camp <br />- Shared with Mounds View <br />(CONTINUED.,.) <br />
