July 22, 1982
Mr. Arlyn Gunderson, Chairperson
New Brighton Park & Recreation
1975 Silver Lake Road
New Brighton, MN 55112
Dear Mr. Gunderson,
When talking with a neighbor and discussing the deplorable condition
of the playground equipment at Hansen Park, I was told that people
were being encouraged to write individual letters to voice their
concerns.
Is this really necessary? Are petitions required for everything
these days? I think. its obvious enough when relatives visit from
outstate and their children have to ask "Is this a park?", as we
recently experienced.
Perhaps a special collection or appeal for donations is needed if
something must be done: We have too nice an area to be wasted;
3 swings, one "dangerous"slide, and a few horses is not enough
equipment to serve the number of youngsters in this large an area.
Sometime ago a survey was generated asking what we'd like to see
added at Hansen Park. How many people actually indicated a need
for an archery or a golf driving range with young children playing
nearby? The survey sounded incredibly adult-oriented.
If you need petitions, we will start them. What plans are in the
making to make our park a park for kids?
Pat Kallio
1901 Inca Lane
cc: ~aurice Anderson
Director
New Brighton Park & Recreation
1975 Silver Lake Road
New Brighton, MN 55112
