Anders~~~fl'YYector of <br />Re: Recreation Programming Issues <br />Parks and Recreation <br />Arly and I have recently had some discussions on~the need for <br />developing recreation programs to fill the void created by the <br />changes in summer school programming. I have also had recent <br />discussions with the Community Education Department and they are <br />willing to work with us (and other cities) to develop a cooperative/ <br />comprehensive summer scholastic/recreation program. <br />This is a new area of program endeavor and staff is requesting input <br />from the Park Board in at least the following areas: <br />1) During these times of fiscal constraints for public agencies, <br />should program expansion be considered. <br />2) If "push comes to shove" is this programming essential <br />enough to force abandonment of some existing programs. <br />3) From the following list, which activities does the board <br />think should receive priority attention: , <br />CHILDREN & YOUTH <br />-Lifetime Sports badminton, -Tap and Ballet - indoor <br />golf, tennis, raquetball, -Baton <br />archery) -Puppetry <br />-Canoe Regatta -Creative Dramatics. <br />-Canoe Lessons ~ -Gardening - "How Does Your Garden <br />-Wind Surfing Grow?" <br />-Fishing Derby -Trips - (Plan to continue one a <br />-Movies week for at least 7 weeks as we <br />-Floor Hockey did last year <br />-Woodworking & Plastics -Pedal Power/Bicycle Trips <br />-Creative Cooking <br />-Outdoor Cookery WILL CONTINUE: <br />-Day Camp <br />-Art Camp and/or -Puppet Wagon - Shared with Mounds View <br />Art in the Park -Tots & Tykes <br />(weaving, ceramics, -T-Ball <br />pottery, jewelry making) -Softball <br />-Photography -Swimming <br />-Crafts-Nature Leathercraft, -Gymnastics <br />Candles, Soft Sculpture -Day Camp <br />-Games Galore (expand this <br />offering to more than one <br />location) (CONTINUED...) <br />-Jazzercise - outdoor setting <br />
