Anderson said that in response to Carlson, don't want to see the transfer delayed. Don't think it is necessary. Carlson said he is not speaking in terms of the Council but the public. The public wants to know when the money is transferred. Tell them now how we want to handle the money. Want them to know it is something we have been thinking about for a long time. Anderson said he likes Van Hatten's idea. Carlson and Johnson said they would be willing to help Van Hatten.. Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Carlson, to recommend that the money from the sale of land from Long Lake Park be put into a permanent fund and the interest be designated as follows: -The entire cost of New Brighton's share of operation and maintenance of Long Lake Park be taken from the interest from the sale of Long Lake Park -A fixed amount be added to the fund yearly to increase • the dollar value -The remainder of the interest be used for park purposes as necessary. Johnson asked if anything should be added about not touching the principal. Van Hatten said the intent is clear. Johnson said we could add that only the interest be used. Van Hatten said we can't tell them they can't. Motion by Carlson, seconded by Olson, to amend the motion recommending that the principal should not be touched. Motion carried. Van Hatten opposed.
