Other Developments
Brighton Village
Black reported that there has been no change on Brighton Village and staff is hoping to hear
from Kraus-Anderson some time this spring. Stang noted that LA Fitness is opening a new
location at Northtown Mall, and is hopeful that this means it will also go in at Brighton Village.
Kaufhold inquired if Sinclair has removed its tanks. Williamette replied that they have removed
the tanks. Stang inquired who the new owner is. Black replied the manager of the station
purchased the site and he recently called to see how the development at Brighton Village was
progressing.
Marv's Transmission
Black reported that the development is still progressing. The developer has found another tenant
that will occupy most of the building.
Chamnt~s
Larson stated that he recently had a conversation with the manager of Charnpps who indicated
that the owners realized they missed an opportunity to put in the patio last summer and will try to
put it in this year.
Year in Review
Black noted that old minutes show that the Commission used to take time to review each year
and set goals for the upcoming year. He feels that this would be a good opportunity to review
the Commission's duties and responsibilities. He pointed out that when the commission was first
established it mainly dealt with commercial and industrial projects and has morphed into dealing
with housing and all types of redevelopment projects. Delaune suggested that the EDC advise
and make more recommendations and motions than it has in the past. Black noted that staff can
do a better job at setting up for a motion if the commission would like. Larson added that staff
provides the Council with all commission minutes, and the motions and recommendations are
shown.
Hoffman stated that the last time the commission responsibilities were revised was in the 1990s
and the Council will be lacking at all commissions' responsibilities at the April retreat. Harmon
recommended that the each commissioner came up with priorities for the March meeting. She
recalled that five or six years ago the Commission members each made a "wish list" for the City.
Kaufhold inquired if there was a chance that the EDC could be consolidated with the Planning
Commission. Larson replied that there is no thought of consolidating any of the commissions.
Larson added that the commission should ignore the "naysayers" who suggest that this project
should have never been approved and rejoice in any bad news that comes up regarding the
project. He feels that they represent only two or three percent of the population, the rest suggest
that the City "do what you need to get done and make sure it's done correctly." He stated that
. this commission is integral in making the best decisions for the community. The figures for the
estimated cleanup costs have been the "worst case" scenario. Jim Casserly has always stressed
that his figures are very conservative.
