August 4, 1982 Park Board Minutes Page 2
V. New Business •
A. MRPA Nominations
Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Carlson, to nominate Ellen
Dahl for the MRPA Board and Commission award. Motion carried.
VI. Old Business
A. Long Lake.
Anderson said the EIS hearings are complete and went well. The
city had alot of people with high credentials confirm the plan
was good. The hearing examiner is studying the hearing material
and then it will go to the EQB. Lf they feel it is necessary,
the EQB will order an EIS. Will know by October 1st. On the
sale of land, Charles Dayton plans to iniate a lawsuit to stop
the sale.
Schmidt said the LLIA had asked that a number of conditions be
met. All of these were rejected by a majority of the council.
The position now is to get in gear and move to affect the land
transfer. Hope it is completed before the suit is iniated.
Gunderman stated the Park Board had made a motion that the money
for the sale of land be put in a trust fund and used for future •
development and maintenance of our park system. Don't. know where
the council stands but would like to share ideas with the council
and the city manager.
Hogan said he was told by one council member that the city
manager stated the money could go directly into the city coffers.
Schmidt said he has only heard that the money will be invested at
12o and will be available for Long Lake maintenance and other
park operations. Have never heard the money will be used for
wells or other city expenses. It has not been discussed with
the council.
Gunderman said now would be a good time to discuss it and get
comments .
Dahl said she would like to talk to the council and city manager.
Anderson suggested inviting the city manager to the September
Park Board meeting.
Schmidt said he would like the Park Board to do that whenever
there is not any clarity.
Anderson said he will contact Jim Fornell. •
Johnson said that the item discussed should be highlighted.
