January 6, 1982 Park Board Minutes
Page. 3
Anderson said that all. three ideas should have a formal letter
submitted to the Park Board and City Council. It .will be tough
at this time to work. into the plan. It was mentioned to Ken
Simons and he was quite receptive to the idea.- Anderson said
he has a problem with the location of the building. One concern
is that it is going .into the inner park. In order to get to the
museum, will have to drive through the entire park. Would need
a signal for railroad crossing if new road was put in.
Motion by Johnson, seconded by Hogan, to refer Bromander's
presentation to the Long Lake Study Committee for their reactions
and any recommendations, Motion passed.
Anderson said there is a possibility that the-County may purchase
Texgas. This could be a superior location for the museum.
Anderson suggested that Bromander start some conversation with
Ramsey County people. Maybe work concurrently with Ramsey County..
They have equal veto power, It would save a lot of time.
Motion by Johnson,- seconded by Olson, that the Park Board is in
favor of the concept having Minnesota Transportation Museum
located in New Brighton.. Motion passed.
C. Long Lake Lease Proposal .(Bill Jacobs)
Bill Jacobs .was unable to .make the presentation.
D. Recreation Program Criteria
Anderson stated that 3 or 4 months ago the Oasis Program started.
The Council was upset with adding a new program of this kind
without their consent Tt was decided to develop program criteria
to avoid the possibility of starting a program such as Oasis without
Park. Board or Council concurrence. If a program does not meet all
criteria, then it will come to the Park Board and Council for
approval. It will be helpful for the Park Board and the Council
to look at the criteria.
Park Board members briefly discussedcriteria with the majority
feeling it was very well done.
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Van Hatten, to approve the proposed
recreation criteria. Motion passed.
E. Use of .Eagles Club Gift
Anderson said the Eagles Club donated $200 toward youth sports
program. The gift does not fit with the criteria developed.
Anderson said it-would be appropriate for this money to be used
fora picnic for the youth softball and T~ba11 programs. It would
be good publicity for the Eagles. The Park Board may-want to hook
at the gift use criteria and add a clause stating that if the
money is under a certain amount, no need to go to -the Park Board
or Council.
The Park Board had-mixed emotions on whether the criteria
should be changed,
