The meeting was called to order by chairman Schultz at 8:10 p.m.
2. Ellen Dahl was elected secretary of the board. Motion by Knuth, seconded
by Johnson (held over from 6/29/83 meeting). 5 yes, 0 no.
3. .Steve Singer presented and discussed concept plans for the park beach
house (Long Lake Refectory Building). The building,. 3600 square feet in
size, is to be located away from the beach, abutting the parking area,
and well landscaped with trees and shrubs in response to concerns
" expressed by lake$hore residents. The back of the building will. be 240 feet
from water's edge.
Design of the building separates beach and non-beach use by a pass-through
lobby area, covered by a pyramid roof with large skylight. The roof will
be cedar shingle, with the inside of timber fill. The design enables
natural light, efficient winter use, and the capability of controlling
access to the beach should user fees be adopted.
The building is fronted by patio area, providing picnic facilities and some
shade. Concessions and dressing rooms will be accessed from outside,. with
rental locker space and drinking fountains available.- Handicapped parking
and trail access to the beach area are provided. There will be provision
for bicycle parking along the north side of the building, and adequate access
for emergency, beach maintenance and. delivery vehicles is planned. The guard.
room is located in the southwest corner of the building.. Large storage rooms
are a part of the concept design.
Fencing is anticipated, from the northwest and southeast corners of the
building diagonally to the wader edge. Picnic facilities will be available
inside as well as outside the fenced-area, on the grassy slope toward .the
beach. Little modification of the terrain between the building and the
water edge will be required.
4. Discussion questions were addressed by Singer, McGuire and Simons. Simons
noted that the Master Plan had indicated a need to cut back into the shoreline
in order to provide required slope into the water. However, this will not be
necessary. A sand blanket will be laid along the 450 feet of shoreline to
a depth of 5 feet. Material will be available from on site or private supplier
sand and gravel (at approximately $5,000 for 700 yards). Knuth asked about
.using sediment from the north end of the lake, but Simons responded it was
too fine.
